JAGATI Women Empowerment Initiatives (J-WEI)

JAGATI Women Empowerment Initiatives (J-WEI) is envisioned as an integrated and community-led approach to promoting gender equity, social inclusion, economic empowerment and leadership among women, youth and marginalized communities. Recognizing that sustainable development requires equal opportunities, participation and decision-making, J-WESII focuses on strengthening women’s institutions, promoting rights awareness, improving financial inclusion and supporting access to social protection and development entitlements. The initiative also encourages leadership development among women and youth, enabling them to participate more effectively in household, community and local governance processes. Through collective action, capacity building and institutional strengthening, J-WEI aims to build Empowered, Inclusive and Gender-Responsive Communities (EIGRC) where women and marginalized groups can exercise their rights, access opportunities and contribute meaningfully to sustainable development.

Key Components:

Promotion and Strengthening of Collectives

Women’s Collective Strengthening Initiative focuses on strengthening Self-Help Groups (SHGs), federations and other women-led community institutions. The initiative supports capacity building, institutional management, collective action and improved participation in livelihood and development activities. By strengthening women’s collectives, JAGATI aims to enhance solidarity, confidence, leadership and the collective capacity of women to address social and economic challenges.

Leadership & Governance

Women’s Leadership & Governance Initiative aims to strengthen the leadership, confidence and decision-making capacities of women in households, community institutions and local governance processes. The initiative encourages women to take active roles in SHGs, producer groups, village institutions and other community platforms. Through mentoring, training and exposure opportunities, JAGATI seeks to develop women leaders who can contribute to inclusive and accountable community development.

Financial Inclusion & Entitlements

Financial Inclusion & Entitlements Initiative supports women and marginalized households in improving access to financial services, savings, credit, insurance, government programmes and social protection entitlements. The initiative promotes financial literacy and strengthens awareness of available development opportunities. By improving access to resources and entitlements, JAGATI aims to enhance economic security, reduce vulnerability and support informed decision-making.

Gender Equity & Rights Awareness

Gender Equity & Rights Awareness Initiative promotes awareness and dialogue on gender equality, women’s rights, social inclusion and equal opportunities. The initiative engages women, men, youth and community institutions in addressing gender discrimination, unequal participation and social barriers. Through sensitization, awareness and capacity-building activities, JAGATI seeks to promote more equitable, respectful and gender-responsive households and communities.

Social Inclusion & Equity

JAGATI Social Inclusion & Equity Initiative works to strengthen the participation and inclusion of marginalized and vulnerable groups in development processes. The initiative promotes equitable access to information, opportunities, institutions and public services while encouraging communities to address social exclusion and discrimination. JAGATI aims to support development processes that recognize diversity, dignity and equal participation.

Together, these initiatives position J-WEI as a comprehensive platform for advancing gender equity, women’s empowerment, social inclusion, financial security, rights awareness and grassroots leadership, enabling women, youth and marginalized communities to become active participants and leaders in shaping inclusive and sustainable development.
