JAGATI-Livelihoods & Economic Development Initiatives (J-LEDI)
JAGATI-Livelihoods & Economic Development Initiatives (J-LEDI) is envisioned as an integrated and community-led approach to strengthening sustainable livelihoods, economic resilience and self-reliance among rural, tribal and marginalized communities. Recognizing that livelihoods are closely linked with natural resources, agriculture, skills, institutions, markets and entrepreneurship, J-LEDI promotes diversified and sustainable livelihood opportunities through climate-resilient agriculture, Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs), livestock, value addition, producer institutions and rural enterprises. The initiative focuses on strengthening farmers, women, youth and community institutions by improving their access to skills, technology, finance, markets and development opportunities. By combining traditional knowledge, local resources, innovation and enterprise development, J-LEDI aims to create Sustainable and Resilient Livelihood Communities (SRLC) where households and community institutions are empowered to build dignified, economically secure and environmentally sustainable futures.
JAGATI-Climate Resilience Initiatives (J-CRI)
JAGATI-Climate Resilience Initiatives (J-CRI) is envisioned as an integrated, community-led approach to strengthening sustainable livelihoods and climate resilience among tribal and rural communities. Recognizing that agriculture, livestock, nutrition, natural resources and climate adaptation are deeply interconnected, the initiative brings these areas together within a holistic climate-resilient livelihood system. JTCRI promotes climate-resilient farming through millets, pulses, indigenous crops and horticulture; strengthens livestock-based livelihoods; supports kitchen and nutrition gardens; and encourages soil and water conservation, agroforestry and the sustainable management of non-timber forest products (NTFPs). The initiative also focuses on strengthening farmer groups, women’s Self-Help Groups, local enterprises and community institutions, while improving access to climate information and locally appropriate adaptation practices. By combining traditional knowledge, biodiversity, sustainable natural-resource management and modern scientific approaches, J-CRI aims to develop Climate-Resilient Rural Villages (CRRV) where communities play a central role in planning and implementing solutions for improved livelihoods, food and nutrition security, ecological sustainability and long-term resilience.
JAGATI-Food, Nutrition & Health Initiatives (J-FNHI)
JAGATI Food, Nutrition & Health Initiatives (J-FNHI) is envisioned as an integrated, community-led approach to improving food and nutrition security, health and well-being among rural, tribal and marginalized communities. Recognizing the close relationship between agriculture, food, nutrition, health, sanitation and environmental conditions, J-FNHI promotes locally appropriate and sustainable solutions for healthier communities. The initiative focuses on nutrition-sensitive agriculture, kitchen gardens, maternal and child nutrition, healthy food practices, WASH and environmental health, while strengthening community awareness and local institutions. By combining locally available foods, community knowledge and preventive health practices, J-FNHI aims to develop Healthy, Nutrition-Secure and Resilient Communities (HNSRC) where families, particularly women and children, can access diverse, nutritious food and improved health opportunities.
JAGATI Women Empowerment Initiatives (J-WEI)
JAGATI Women Empowerment Initiatives (J-WEI) is envisioned as an integrated and community-led approach to promoting gender equity, social inclusion, economic empowerment and leadership among women, youth and marginalized communities. Recognizing that sustainable development requires equal opportunities, participation and decision-making, J-WESII focuses on strengthening women’s institutions, promoting rights awareness, improving financial inclusion and supporting access to social protection and development entitlements. The initiative also encourages leadership development among women and youth, enabling them to participate more effectively in household, community and local governance processes. Through collective action, capacity building and institutional strengthening, J-WEI aims to build Empowered, Inclusive and Gender-Responsive Communities (EIGRC) where women and marginalized groups can exercise their rights, access opportunities and contribute meaningfully to sustainable development.
JAGATI Rights, Institutions & Governance Initiatives (J-RIGI)
JAGATI-Rights, Institutions & Governance Initiatives (J-RIGI) is envisioned as an integrated, rights-based and community-led approach to strengthening democratic participation, accountable institutions and access to legal and development entitlements among rural, tribal and marginalized communities. Recognizing that sustainable development depends on informed citizens, responsive institutions and effective local governance, J-RIGI promotes participatory planning, awareness of rights, secure access to land and natural resources, convergence with government programmes and capacity building of local institutions. The initiative seeks to strengthen the ability of communities to participate meaningfully in decisions affecting their lives while supporting transparent, inclusive and accountable governance systems. Through capacity building, institutional strengthening and collective action, J-RIGI aims to develop Empowered Communities and Responsive Local Institutions that can promote inclusive, equitable and sustainable development.
JAGATI-Environment & Disaster Resilience Initiatives (J-EDRI)
JAGATI-Environment & Disaster Resilience Initiatives (J-EDRI) is envisioned as an integrated, science-based and community-centred approach to strengthening environmental sustainability, natural resource management and disaster resilience. Recognizing the close relationship between geology, land, water, ecosystems, climate and human livelihoods, J-EDRI promotes the application of geosciences, spatial information and local knowledge in development planning. The initiative focuses on groundwater and soil resource management, disaster risk reduction, climate adaptation, geo-based planning, sustainable land use, responsible mining and ecological restoration. By combining scientific knowledge, geospatial tools and community participation, J-EDRI aims to develop Resilient Landscapes and Disaster-Prepared Communities that can manage environmental risks and promote sustainable development.
JAGATI-Research, Knowledge & Policy Engagement Initiatives (J-RPEI)
JAGATI-Research, Knowledge & Policy Engagement Initiatives (J-RKPEI) is envisioned as an integrated platform for generating evidence, strengthening knowledge systems and promoting informed policy and development practice. Recognizing that effective and sustainable development requires reliable evidence, community knowledge and continuous learning, J-RKPEI undertakes baseline studies, action research, impact assessments, documentation and knowledge-sharing initiatives across JAGATI’s thematic areas. The initiative also promotes dialogue among communities, researchers, government institutions, civil society, development practitioners and other stakeholders. By combining research, field experience, community perspectives and policy engagement, J-RKPEI aims to generate Evidence, Knowledge and Policy Pathways for Inclusive and Sustainable Development.
